Twitter for Ubuntu (Linux) Users

While a client or plug-in to tweet is typically unneeded, the Twitter IM has been broken for ... ever? *cough* Time to get something working. "Czarphanguye: Looking for a nice desktop twitter app (for linux.)" Thanks for the feedback @cawlin @embee @PatiNet

Prism + Hahlo

Prism is an application that lets users split web applications out of their browser and run them directly on their desktop. Hahlo is twitter + summerizer (for tracking replies) + eye candy. Combined this is a modern and very slick way to twitter. One note-worthy feature of this set-up is Hahlo uses Summize to dispaly all replies to your username (Vs twitter.com that shows just replies of people you follow.)

Adobe Air + Twirl

The Adobe® AIR for Linux alpha is a version of the Adobe AIR runtime that allows Adobe AIR applications to be deployed on computers and devices running the Linux operating system. twhirl is a desktop twitter client, based on the Adobe AIR platform. Twirl is defenitly the best pure twitter desktop client avilble. Some noticable features are toaster style pop-ups (with sound) when you recieve a new tweet, themes, friendfeed support, and did I mention themes?

gTwitter

gTwitter is a simple GTK++ based application for Linux, designed to interact with Twitter web service. It's written using Mono/C# and some of GNOME dependant libraries. GUI is inspired by Mac client Twitterrific. This is perhaps the easiest client to install for Ubutnu users. Simply 'sudo apitude install gtwitter' and then run it. As you see gTwitter is simple, simple, simple... yet gets the job done.

VIM + TwitVIM

TwitVim is a Vim plugin, by @mortonfox, that allows you to post to Twitter and view Twitter timelines. It is an enhancement of vimscript #2124 by Travis Jeffery. All I can comment about TwitVIM is that it's a must have for any CLI junky. Set-up is a brease and now you have no excuse not to twitter when your lost in a screen session. Post to twitter, read the timeline, and even search summize.

Pidgin + gTalk (XMPP)

Pidgin is an instant messaging program for Windows, Linux, BSD, and other Unixes. You can talk to your friends using AIM, ICQ, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr. Once you connect Pidgin to your gTalk (gMail account) simply start a session w/ twitter@twitter.com.

ZenTwitter

ZenTwitter is a small script by @chimeric to update twitter without the need of having a browser window open all the time. It uses zenity and curl.

FireFox + TwitterBar

TwitterBar allows you to post to Twitter from Firefox's address bar. A small unobtrusive grey icon sits to the right of your address bar; clicking on it will post your tweet, and you can hover your mouse over it to see how many characters you have left.

Twitim

Twitim is an XMPP (Jabber) client for Twitter. It is implemented with Gtk2-Perl. Using web API togethe, Custom watchlist, Sounds and pop-up notifications

TwitterFox

TwitterFox lets you know twitter statuses. The extension adds a tiny icon on the status bar that notifies you when your friends update their statuses. Also it has a small text input field to update your status. (thanks @radix33 for the suggestion)
