In the modern computational stack, we are subject to a constant, high-frequency dissonance. Our attention is harvested by centralized, walled gardens designed to maximize latency between our intention and its realization, while maximizing the noise of digital distraction. We live in a state of cognitive fragmentation, where the terminal—our primary site of sovereignty—is often used merely to facilitate the extraction of value for others.
We have optimized our software for efficiency, but we have forgotten to optimize our existence for presence.
The Intervention: mality within the Shell
To combat this entropy, I have constructed a high-signal, low-latency anchor: memento-cli.
This is not a "productivity tool." It is not a "reminder" in the sense of an intrusive, asynchronous notification that breaks your flow. Instead, it is a rhythmic intervention into the terminal environment—the very substrate where our digital agency resides.
memento-cli implements the ancient practice of Memento Mori—the remembrance of death—directly into the CLI workflow. It serves as a periodic, tactical reminder of the biological reality that underlies all computational complexity.
Systemic Design: Sovereignty & Signal Density
Most "reminder" applications are bloated with telemetry-heavy GUIs and centralized cloud dependencies. They increase your attack surface while decreasing your signal density. For an ascetic architect, this is unacceptable.
memento-cli was built following the principles of The Fortress of Intentionality:
- Zero Telemetry (Absolute Soverealty): The tool is entirely local. It does not phone home to a server; it does not track your "streaks"; it does not require an account. Your mortality belongs to you, not a cloud provider.
- Minimalist Substrate: Written for the terminal, it respects the user's cognitive bandwidth. No heavy-weight GUIs or distracting animations—only raw, high-density signal that integrates into your existing shell environment.
- Low Latency, High Presence: It is designed to be an anchor. By integrating
mementointo your dotfiles and shell startup scripts, you transform the terminal from a site of mindless consumption into a space of grounded awareness.
# Example: Integrating memento into your shell ritual
# Every time you open a new session, you are reminded of the ground truth.

Bridging the Digital and the Transcendental
The gap between our digital tools and our biological reality is where most human-computer interaction fails. We treat the computer as an abstraction, a realm of pure logic, forgetting that it is fueled by the finite energy of a mortal being. A terminal session is not infinite; your time within it is not infinite.
By introducing the timbre of mortality into our technical workflows, we collapse the distinction between the digital and the transcendental. We move from fragmented attention to a unified field of presence.
Deployment
The repository is now live on GitHub. For those who value-driven development and sovereign systems, I invite you to integrate this temporal anchor into your own stack.

- Installation: Follow the
install.shscript for a seamless integration into your local environment.
Minimize the noise. Maximize the signal.
Remember that you are finite.
